A very Stoogely Monday to you!

Hi everybody!

Hope you're enjoying your Monday. I'm really grateful to the Farrelly Brothers for motivating me (indirectly, of course!) to update this blog after an absence of two years. And I'm sure my millions of loyal followers were just destitute during that time (nyuk nyuk!).

This will be a short post because, like Curly after a run-in with Moe, or Larry after a run-in with Curly, or Moe after a run-in with Larry or Curly, or ... (keep going, knucklehead, you get the picha! nyuk nyuk!), anyway, I'm in HORRIBLE HIDEOUS PAIN.

Fortunately, no one got a grip on my hair, or my necktie - just my knee.

Feels like it's been whacked by a sledgehammer - OWWWW!!

But being a dedicated employee of Cinderella Laminated Shims, I'm powering through till my physical therapy appointment tomorrow.

Wonder if I'll get Dr. Howard, Dr. Fine or Dr. Howard?

First Reviews - kinda meh so far!

Well, the first reviews are starting to trickle in and so far it’s looking kinda iffy for our (new) Guys!

It’s about 50/50 on the “Rotten Tomatoes” website.

However, upon closer examination, I think there’s grounds to disqualify at least one of the negative reviews – specifically, that of the otherwise great and incomparable Roger Ebert.

Now I don't know about you, but when I read this review, the first thing that jumped out at me was:

“Growing up, I missed the whole Three Stooges thing. Either they weren't on the station in my hometown, or we hadn't bought a TV set yet, or they came to town too late for me. I'm pretty sure that at the right age, I would have loved them.”

Hey, wise guy! No one who didn’t – or doesn’t – appreciate the comic genius that IS (er, was) the original Three Stooges should have the authority to sit in judgment on this movie!

Rog, you’re a genius, and all due respect & etc., but frankly, since you blatantly admit you don’t like the Stooges anyway, you should have just recused yourself from this review, like any self-respecting judge!

Anyway, he goes on to say he “didn’t laugh much” (uh oh, Farrelly Bros., not a good sign since this is supposed to be a comedy, I think), and concludes:

“I don't think the Stooges are funny, although perhaps I might once have. Some of the sight gags were clever, but meh. The three leads did an admirable job of impersonation. I think this might be pretty much the movie Stooges fans were looking for. I have no idea what their children will think about it. I guess what I'm wondering is, was it really necessary?”

Awwww, come on, Rog! It’s ALWAYS necessary to remind the public what great talents the Three Stooges were! And if it takes a crappy mid-level modern-day remake to do it, then I’m all for it!

I’ll keep you posted if any better reviews come out – by anyone who actually LIKES the Stooges fawgawdsake …

An ode to Will Sasso as Curly, and an apology (of sorts)

Longtime readers of the original Women Who Run With the Stooges page may remember that I had sort of a love/hate relationship with Will Sasso, who’s playing "Curly" in that new Farrelly brothers movie.

The thing is, I got a big crush on him when he was on MadTV because (a) he LOOKED like Curly and (b) I loved me some Curly!

Classic airplane sketch with Will Sasso and "Miss Swan"
(aka Alex Borstein, now the voice of Lois in Family Guy!)

So I set up this auxiliary page called: Hopelessly Devoted to Will Sasso! And a lot of people liked it!

But then – Will changed. And here’s where I’m going to sound like a mean hypocritical bitch, but so be it.
Will Sasso (gasp) LOST WEIGHT!!!

And I might have been able to deal with that - but then he got into this weird pro wrestling thing with some guy named Bret Hart.

And I HATE wrestling.

So I started posting things like this in my "Comments" section:

Oh, and by the way, I no longer care at all, not one itty bitty iota, about Will Sasso, so please stop writing to me and sending me his new web page address, asking me for video clips, etc., or else I will rename the page, "Hopelessly Devoted to KILLING Will Sasso," and then where will my Stooges fans be when I'm languishing in the slammer, and no Martha Stewart in sight to help me make curtains for my barred window?? Think about it!!

And:

Okay, I don't mean to be rude or anything, but please read this carefully before you send me e-mail, okay? I DO NOT HAVE ANY WILL SASSO VIDEOS, CDS, DVDS, TAPES, MP3S, or any other Sasso stuff. I AM NOT IN PERSONAL CONTACT WITH WILL SASSO (despite my best efforts!). Also, I AM NO LONGER HOPELESSLY DEVOTED to Will Sasso, I just keep this site online because a lot of people complained when I deactivated it. So please don't write to me & ask me for Sasso stuff & info - I don't have it and I don't care! (But I don't want to be rude - so let me add, PLEASE! nyuk nyuk!)

Pretty clearcut, eh?

Well - eons passed ("site last updated: November 14, 2004"), and times changed - and hey! So did Will!

Now he’s apparently embraced his inner Curly (yay!) and gained back a little bit of that cute chubbiness (not too much, Will! We want you to stay healthy! Just a little big tummy is fine!).

So whether or not the movie is successful, I’ll tip my pen to Will Sasso and thank him for bringing our beloved Curly back to the big screen, where he belongs – if only for a few short days, before it goes direct to DVD!

Will Sasso IS Curly! (sort of!)

Welcome, Kindle readers!

If you're reading this, chances are you're reading it on your Kindle. I deduce this because (a) I just made it available for Kindle yesterday and (b) I haven't had a whole lot of hits here lately (nyuk nyuk!).

So WELCOME! And thanks for giving my blog a chance. I know it's always a gamble, subscribing to a blog on the Kindle, when you could just as easily get it for free online. (Hmm, maybe I shouldn't have said that!) But hey, you get that great 14-day free trial, so please - gimme a chance! I'll do my best to make it worth your while!

A little background: My name is Christine Lehman, and a looonnnnggg looonnggg time ago - way back in the previous century - there was this thing called the Internet. It was brand new and really cool. One night, while sitting in my un-air-conditioned apartment near downtown Los Angeles, watching "Sex and the City" on my 13-inch portable TV (fun fact: the cable cost more than the rent), wearing a red silk nightgown and drinking Two Buck Chuck, I mused on something I'd heard earlier that evening on Seinfeld: "Women do NOT like the Three Stooges!"

I looked at myself in the mirror. Boobs - check. No penis - check. And yet, I liked the Three Stooges. "Hey!" I sputtered (spilling some of my precious precious wine). "Ain't I a woman?"

Yes indeedy! And thus a website was born: the non-infamous Women Who Run With The Stooges!

It became an instant hit - well, sort of. Nowhere near as much of a hit as the Hamsterdance, or Eric Conveys an Emotion.

But still, I got a respectable 20,000 hits within a couple of years. Which sounds laughable today, but hey, as someone who was kind of unpopular in high school (and junior high, and grade school, and probably in the womb), I was thrilled! I felt like Sally Field ("You like me!")

I even got interviewed! Not once, but twice! Once by a newspaper in Cleveland (I think), and once by a radio station in Florida (I think). I tried to save the data but it's gotten lost in the mists of time.

Still, it happened! Really!

The only thing that didn't happen was that I didn't impress the guy I was currently dating* enough to make him KEEP dating* me. We broke up and I moped around for a while, till I met the guy I'm currently dating* (and married to!).

More on the history of the Stoogeswoman - and some cool stuff about the upcoming movie - next post!

*(and yes, "dating" is a euphemism for something else! Use your filthy imagination!)

Why you - I'll moida you! Nyuk nyuk!

Hey Stooges Women!

Yes, your friendly neighborhood Stooges Woman is BACK!

And with the release of that new movie by, er, what's-their-names? the something brothers? I've decided to take full advantage of the possibility that someone with a Kindle might actually want to READ this stuff, nyuk nyuk!

So stay tuned! I'll be posting Stooges updates, reviews of the movie and all the Stoogely news your little heart desires!

And for those of you who are new to the whole "Stooges Woman" concept, here's a link to the website that started it all: http://www.angelfire.com/ca4/stoogelovers/

My Uncle Bill, a D-Day Vet, who once saw Larry Fine in Los Angeles

Those of you who are long-time readers of my website, Women Who Run With the Stooges, may remember a little piece I posted many years ago. It's my Uncle Bill Meisburger's memory of a close encounter with Larry, one of our beloved Three Stooges.

Uncle Bill died last week. His son Danny composed his obituary, and I thought I'd print it here, so you can see for yourself what a great guy he was.

WILLIAM F. MEISBURGER

William "Bill" Meisburger, 85, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2009, in Sun City, Arizona. Bill was born on March 7, 1924, in Kansas City, Missouri.

Bill’s love of country and of adventure saw him entering the U.S. Army Air Corps at the age of 17. He quickly completed Officer Training and became one of a small, but brave group of Glider Pilots. He proudly and courageously flew Glider Missions into Normandy on D-Day, and, subsequently, into Holland and Germany, in the Allies' efforts to win World War II. His experiences during the War years were some of his proudest, and his love of flying continued throughout his life.

After the end of the war, Bill worked as a newspaper reporter in Kansas and in New Mexico. He later became a police officer and a highway patrolman for the state of Missouri. He met his beloved wife, Marjorie, in Jefferson City, Missouri, and they were married there on February 1, 1949.

With three young children, they decided to move to Montana, settling first in Billings, and then later in Great Falls. Adding two more children to the family, Bill changed careers and became an Attorney. After being elected to the position of County Attorney for Rosebud County, Bill moved his family to Forsyth in 1966, where they lived until 1994. He was the City Attorney for Forsyth for many years, as well as having a private law practice. In 1975, Governor Thomas L. Judge appointed Bill to the Montana Coal Board. He served for five years, the last two as Chairman. During his tenure, the Coal Board awarded over $19M in grants to Rosebud County towns. Projects included new schools in Forsyth, Colstrip, Ashland and Lame Deer. After retirement, Bill and Marjorie moved to the warmer climate of Arizona .

Bill had an amazing and very full life. He and his family were active members of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He loved to golf and was a long-time member of the Forsyth Golf Club. Bill owned an airplane and spent many happy hours flying with his good friend George Tillitt. He was also a prolific artist; he loved to draw cartoons - often using his family members and friends as the subjects! In 1994, he wrote and illustrated a children’s book, "The History of Papa Frog", that was published in both English and Spanish.

Bill is survived by his wife, Marjorie, of 60 years; his sons, Dan (Donna) Meisburger of San Jose, CA and John (Lori) Meisburger of Tacoma, WA; his daughters, Susan (Bob) Hart of Portland, OR, Loretta Meisburger of Seattle, WA and Laura Meisburger of Sundance, UT, and ten wonderful grandchildren. He also leaves one brother and two sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.

Should friends desire, they can make donations to The Alzheimer's Association or to a hospice of their choice. Services will be held in Phoenix, Arizona, at a later date.

Back to the Stooges!

OK, enough history and melodrama. This is a blog about the STOOGES, after all!

Here's some info at imdb about the upcoming Farrelly Brothers movie.

Looks like Jim Carrey is no longer slated to play Curly. Ummmm ... good? Because frankly, I never saw it.

Though I guess it was a good idea not to just look around for "a fat actor" to play him. Let's face it - our Curly was MUCH more than just a "fat guy", wasn't he?
